The parish of East Hoathly & Halland is twinned with Juziers, a lovely village on the Seine, some 35 miles north-west of the centre of Paris in the Ile de France region.
The twinning bond was forged in 1994 and has been increasingly strengthened over the years by annual visits in either direction.
Any parishioner is automatically a potential twinner. It costs nothing to join. Neither is there a requirement to speak perfect French. The Twinning Association has organised fund raising events over the years, in which monies have been raised for our two local hospices and other cancer related charities. The Race Night and the Quiz Night have become annual fixtures. The multi-draw is a quarterly event which has enriched a number of residents as well as providing a healthy boost to Twinning funds.
These funds are primarily earmarked for the annual Twinning Visit – whether it is home or away. For the 'home fixture' we put on a welcome reception and a big dinner for hosts and our French friends. For the 'away fixture' the funds raised pay for subsidised seating on the coach and very reduced pricing for children and students.
The hospitality we receive from our French hosts when we travel to Juziers is overwhelming and lives long in the memory. It also provides an excellent introduction to French family life!
We are looking for more people, particularly those with young families, to be part of the twinning exchange visits. There are more 'Juzierois' keen to form a link than we can currently accommodate!
